Harvest
The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.--
Psalm 67:6 NIV
Thanks to my dad's friend and his brother I was able to ride along on a combine during the milo harvest. The combine's head used to cut the milo is thirty feet wide. I climbed up a side step ladder and overlooked the hundred and sixty acre field from a high vantage point--a vantage point giving views of the action of harvest below and of the autumn horizon ahead.
I was again reminded of the kindness of Kansans. Good people who take the time and make the effort to welcome and accommodate others. It may seem like a small thing to make arrangements for a newcomer interested in farm machinery and harvesting to ride along but it was a big learning adventure for me.
These local farmers and ranchers (producers as they're called around here) know about more than tending crops and cattle. They also know how to cultivate friendships--the greatest harvest.
